Description:

This position is responsible for setting the business strategy for Payment Systems, International Payments, Mobile Payments, Market Entry, Remote Deposit Capture, Person-to-Person Payments and other payment types in alignment with the overall Credit Union strategy. These payment types and systems would encompass payments both International and Domestic, in US Dollar and Foreign Currency. Reporting to the AVP Payment Systems are the Payments Operations Manager – Wire Transfer, Payments Operations Manager – EFT, three Payments Investigators, and two OFAC Analysts. The functions performed by the AVP of Payment Systems ensure that members receive high quality service and that payments initiatives balance both member needs with prudent financial decisions.

Accountabilities:

Develop business strategy for Payment Systems, International Payments, Mobile Payments, Market Entry, Remote Deposit Capture, Person-to-Person Payments and other payment types in alignment with overall Credit Union strategy.

Partner with business units on product development and management to ensure that the overall interface design for various components of the solution align with Credit Union strategy.

Monitor regulatory and policy changes, and take appropriate action to ensure compliance with internal and external financial and regulatory requirements.

Assess, identify, and develop market-specific strategies to expand the business and increase competitive relevance through payments innovation.

Monitor the daily operational goals for service, quality, and productivity of departments and ensure that resources are allocated properly to ensure high quality service and maximum productivity.

Keep current with competitive issues, regulatory requirements, and risk issues. Analyze and make recommendations regarding changes, updates in regulations, forms, methods and systems, and direct the implementation.

Manage the selection, coaching, evaluation and development of departmental management. Complete performance evaluations and counsel staff when necessary.

Coordinate with other operational areas of the Credit Union to ensure proper communication, service, and procedures for all issues related to electronic services and delivery channels.

Manage short and long term payments planning. Recommend new electronic payment services, modification or elimination of current services; in alignment with the Credit Union’s strategic direction and member behavior.

Ensure managers in the Payments team meet operational goals for service, quality, and productivity.

Take proper steps to mitigate risk and ensure protection of member information.

Escalate and coordinate resolution of operational issues with other business units.

Analyze and evaluate current environment and provide recommendations for process improvement.


Qualifications:

An incumbent in this position will align Payments initiatives, policies and procedures with the strategic direction of UNFCU as well as motivate, coach and lead the Payments team. The AVP of Payment Services must have a strong knowledge of industry regulations and the ability to analyze data and make appropriate on the spot decisions. This position must also have knowledge of international banking and payments operating procedures, a strong commitment to service excellence, and the ability to communicate and negotiate with vendors. A typical pathway to obtaining the requisite knowledge and skills is graduation from a four-year college or university, and 7-10 years of supervisory experience in a financial services environment. Must possess budgeting, project management, strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to recognize and define problems, research and establish facts, and resolve issues and problems promptly.
